Simple Design, Practical Application, Brilliant Sound…these are the pillars that Antoun & Family Drum Co. (A&F) is built upon.
What began as personal mission to make one drum, has now become a legacy drum manufacturing company. A&F Drum Co. President, Ramy Antoun began his career as a studio drummer in Los Angeles in 1996 when he got a call to come into the studio and record live break beats for an “up and coming” rap group. The session spanned five evenings and resulted in the first Black Eyed Peas Album. From there, Ramy went on to record and perform with hundreds of artists including Seal, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Ed Kowalczyk of the band LIVE, Alexi Murdoch, Glen Phillips, Buckethead, Bonnie Raitt, and more. 25 years in the studio became the foundation of A&F Drum Co.’s sound, design, and aesthetic.
Enriched with a passion to bring concept to reality, innovation is at the core of A&F Drum Co. A&F is a boutique drum company based in Austin, Tx. Designer, Visionary, & President, Ramy Antoun set out to make a raw brass snare drum reminiscent in look and sound of the treasured vintage drums he discovered during his many years as a studio and touring musician. The desire to create a handcrafted drum that stood the test of time resulted in the A&F Drum Co original 4×14 raw brass snare drum. Limited in production to a finite 100, this patented design drum is a rare gem.
“I had no intention of starting a drum company, I just wanted to get this drum sound and look that was in my head to be fully realized into a drum for myself. It was totally a self-indulgent venture, but now has become a passionate labor of love.”
With a connoisseur’s appetite for exceptional sound, a beautiful aesthetic, and a incredible team of Partners and Makers, A&F continues their quest to blend old-world craftsmanship with new world sounds. “We have a incredible team of drummers, artisans, and entrepreneurs that make up the fibers of this company. We believe in a family environment and a unified focus to create the best instruments money can buy,” adds Ramy.
We locally source all available materials and hand-make our shells, hoops, lugs, and badges. We use Italian leather washers between anything that makes contact with the shell and hand stamp every badge for each drum with its own exclusive serial number. When we saw what we were creating and watched the excitement in my own children, it shifted our perspective from an accidental company to a 100 year business plan. We are taking everything we have in us physically, mentally, spiritually and pouring it all into A&F Drum Co.
